East Main Street Bridge, in Newark, in Licking County, Ohio. Intersected-East Main Street Bridge over North Fork Licking River. Construction Date-1898. Structure Length-157.2'. Main Span Length-151'. Structure Type: Metal 9 Panel Pin-Connected Pratt Through Truss, Fixed. Builder/Contractor: Massillon Bridge Company of Massillon, Ohio. Rehabilitation Date-2002. Inventory Number-4560175. GPS: 40.059330, -82.396470.
Note: Sadly, during the rehabilitation, although the preservation of the bridge is a great outcome, it had a couple shortcomings that could have been avoided, and still met the requirements of the crossing. Modern A325 bolts were used instead of historically correct rivets. There was a very large amount of rivets replaced during the rehabilitation, so now it no longer looks like the original all riveted historical bridge. Additionally, the supplemental plates added to this bridge are all bolted as well. Now when viewing the bridge all you see are the mass amount of bolts; rivets are not only historically accurate, they are simply more pleasing to the eye.
